Teachers of the Deaf (TODs) are a critical element when appropriately serving students who are deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) but deaf education is not a one-person solution. Collaboration between the TOD, general education teacher, speech-language therapist, audiologist, and other team members is essential if the student is to be kindergarten ready with appropriate language and academic skills, possess a healthy social-emotional concept of self and sense of belonging, as well ensuring the student is equipped with the necessary post-secondary skill set for success after high school. The team must have knowledge of the unique needs of DHH students and how to address them. In addition to addressing these unique needs, this training will cover guidelines and resources for supporting DHH students as well as simulations of what these students experience in and out of the classroom.
